Life

by L. R. Cates

Thank you FATHER, for now I am conceived.

Blessed with life, I will grow to be like THEE.

From my heart love and joy will flow.

Thank you Mother, for the gift of life that lets me grow.

As I await the ninth month for the light of day,

And the time when I can laugh, I can cry, and play.

But what is this intruder that brings so much pain?

Could it be that I shall never walk in the rain, or speak my father’s name!

Why does this have to be?

Oh, can’t you see how this is hurting me!

Please, humanity, hear my cry!

My mother has chosen for me to die.

FATHER, as I am taken form this place where you once dwelled.

I realize that I shall never be held.

What is this cold, dark place to which I am being taken?

Dear Lord, why must I be forsaken!

I am murdered by this abortion!

FATHER, forgive them, for they know not what they have done.
